Being a women in the workplace…

Women have a long way to go before reaching true equality in the workplace. Although they have come a long way from inequality. However, many women are still combating discrimination within the workplace. I long for the day when we are all treated equally.

Being a woman in the workplace comes with challenges.  Women need prove why they were chosen for a specific role and that they can exceed what is expected from their respective roles.

Not only do women need to fulfil their purpose in the workplace, but they also have integral roles they need to fulfil in their home life, such as being homemaker, chief cook and cleaner, a daughter, wife, mother, aunt, sister, friend or even confidant. Each of these roles comes with unique sets of skills and requirements.

As women, we are known as emotional beings, and this is sometimes seen as a weakness, and I believe it is a beautiful attribute to have. We do not just look at situations and scenarios with the naked eye but we dig a little deeper. Women have the ability to transform broken pieces  and create a wonderful master piece.

I have had the  privilege to be part of a set of incredible women at Accounting Standards Board. Who dominate in the “Technical Accounting World”. These women are competent, compassionate and dedicated to making a difference in the Standard setting of accounting both locally and internationally. Their rare skill and ability to generate these standards is amazing. With the high demand of work load they still manage to have a work life balance.

I am reminded about a quote “A woman is like a tea bag – you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water.”~ Eleanor Roosevelt when I look at each of my colleagues.

I have learned that great results comes with team work, great communication and willingness to learn across all areas. I have been trained and well-groomed by only the best team of women I know in the world.

I am encouraged and inspired to go above and beyond what I think I am cable of pursuing. Even when I fall I am reminded to get up and try again. This time with different perspective. We do not think outside of the box because there is no box to confine us in.

We may not know it, but that is why we have one another to lean on, to learn from, to help one another grow, to be the inspiration to the next woman, to help build one another and to pick each other up when we fall.

To all the wonderful ladies out there, especially the ones I work with Happy women’s month. You are remarkably, wonderfully and beautifully made!
